Meet Laurie Minto, General Manager of ESG at BIC Consolidated. With a passion for sustainability and a background rooted in community service, Laurie leads the company’s Environmental, Social & Governance initiatives from the Sydney office.

In this profile, Laurie shares what drives them, their day-to-day experiences, and what makes the cleaning and property services industry so impactful. From helping clients achieve 6-star NABERS Waste ratings to championing social partnerships, Laurie brings heart and purpose to everything hedoes.

What do you do, and where are you based?

In my role, I help BIC Consolidated be a force for good! While we strive to grow economically, we’re equally focused on making a positive contribution to society - supporting our people, customers and communities -  and reducing and preventing negative environmental impact. I lead BIC Consolidated’s ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) initiatives, which means aligning our operations with values that matter. You’ll find me and my beaming smile in the Rhodes (Sydney) office.

Laurie Minto - General Manager ESG

What spurred/motivated you to get into ESG and pursue a career in it?

I’ve always believed in doing the right thing, and I’ve had a long-standing passion for sustainability, especially when it comes to protecting our oceans (to which we owe every second breath we take). This passion, combined with a career foundation built on community service, going all the way back to my first job as a NSW Police Officer, is a natural fit for me. What does a typical day look like for you? What's something people might be surprised to learn about your job?

No two days are the same. Supporting ESG across a national business means fielding a wide variety of requests from different departments, all aimed at driving positive change. I focus on turning our ESG goals into meaningful action. That can involve collaborating with external partners like Two Good Co., who are doing amazing work to support vulnerable communities. There’s a lot of heart in this role—more than many might expect.

What’s one thing you really enjoy about working at BIC Consolidated?

After 15 months of flying solo in my own consulting business, I can honestly say that being back among a passionate, purpose-driven team is such a joy. Since joining BIC Consolidated in April, I’ve felt incredibly welcomed! It’s that sense of community that makes each day meaningful.

What’s something you’re proud of in your work, or a moment that stands out?

I’ve only been here a short while, but we’ve already had some incredible wins with our customers to help them improve their ESG credentials. Recently our customer at 83 Pirie Street, Adelaide achieved a 6-star NABERS (National Australian Built Environment Rating System) Waste rating, which is a credit to the amazing work our team does. It’s also demonstrative of the types of partnerships we form with our customers to achieve better environmental outcomes from the commercial properties we service across the country.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work?

I love the outdoors! In particular long walks with my wife Rach and our dog Kobe. I’m a big fan of a well-made oat flat white, and I enjoy starting my mornings by making coffee at home. I’m also a massive F1 fan. Lando Norris is my favourite driver. And yes, I’m one of those people who wakes up at all hours to catch the races live!

If you could share one thing with someone who doesn’t know much about the cleaning/property services industry, what would it be?

It’s one of the most diverse and inclusive industries out there. We employ people from all walks of life and provide real opportunities for growth. It’s incredibly rewarding to work in a sector that not only keeps our environments clean and safe but also makes a genuine impact on people’s lives.
